Gorakhpur takes its name from Gorakhnath, who was a saint and travelled widely across India and authored a number of texts that form a part of the canon of Nath Sampradaya. The Gorakhnath Math is a temple of the Nath monastic group of the Nath tradition. The Nath tradition was founded by guru Matsyendranath. This math is situated in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh within a large premises. The temple performs various cultural and social activities and serves as the cultural hub of the city.
A shrine called Gorakhnath Mandir was built in his honour at the location. The musical Light and Sound Show in the evening is the main attraction these days.

Geeta Vatika is situated on Gorakhpur-Pipraich Road near the Asuran Chowk in Gorakhpur. Devotees participate in continuous prayers for Radha, who was the divine love of Lord Krishna. It is located on the Medical College road at Asuran chowk Gorakhpur. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu, this temple has origins that date back to the Pal Dynasty of the 12th century! The four corners of the temple are dedicated to the deities Jaganathpuri, Badrinath, Rameshwaram and Dwarika.

The famous temple associated with a large statue of Lord Vishnu, made of Kasauti (Black) stone, belongs to the Pal dynasty of 12th Century A.D. Ram leela is organised here on the Dusshera festival. The procession is so grand that it fetches the tourist to visit in the season.

Ramgarh Tal is a beautiful natural lake spread in 1700 acres. The Ramgarh lake is one of the city’s main tourist attractions these days in Gorakhpur. People with family enjoy the greenish blue water of the lake with colorful fountains and boat riding. Ramgarh Tal is a rich source of fish and its water is also used for irrigation, supporting livelihood of many.

It is situated near Railway Stadium colony, Gorakhpur on the way to Mohaddipur. The museum is open on all days except Monday. It has mini toy train for kids, small galleries showcasing history and adnvancement in Railway sytems. It also have ancient cranes, a stema engine (1874) , road rollers etc. There is a small park having see-saw, and other small rides for children.

The grand green park is situated inside the town, a paradise for morning walkers and consists of varieties of plants, trees and fruits. It also develops mother buds of roses for several colours. This park is very famous in young people in Gorakhpur.

Situated in Alahdadpur where noted writer ‘Prem Chand’ lived. The park has three fountains with electric lights focusing every part of the garden giving a pleasant look. It attracts kids with a lot of playing Jhulas. Landscape and beautiful greenery make it alluring.
